Family, Festivals and Marriage Customs in Nepal
Extended family households are still common across Nepal, and major decisions - including who a woman spends her life with - are rarely made in isolation. Festivals like Dashain and Tihar bring whole families together every year, and they are a reminder of how central family life stays even as more Nepali women study, work and build careers of their own.
Traditionally, introductions happened through family networks, neighbours or matchmakers, with the couple getting to know each other gradually and with relatives aware of the process from early on. Online dating is newer territory, but many Nepali women carry the same instinct into it: they want to feel that a relationship is heading somewhere real, not that they are one of many open conversations.
Read patience as interest, not hesitation
If replies come slower than you expect, that is rarely a sign of disinterest. It often means she is being thoughtful, or quietly discussing the conversation with someone she trusts. Here's the thing: in most Western dating culture, a fast reply signals interest. In Nepali dating, a careful, considered reply often signals the same thing - just expressed differently.
